Skills Camp South was started as a one week basketball camp by Terrell Myers and Shawon Moncrief in 2001. There was an enrollment of 22 campers, most being family and friends of Shawon and Terrell.
The following year they extended the basketball camp to 2 weeks out of the summer and approximately 35 kids atteneded each week. In 2003 they pressed their luck once again and added yet another week bringing the total to 3 weeks for the summer with over 50 campers per week.
In 2004, Skills Camp added an educational enrichment segment for one hour per day. It included 2 teachers that instructed students in various school subjects. In addition to the enrichment program and averaged close to 100 campers per week. That same year a travel team was added for grades 8-10 with 30 participants.
